Paul Davis Workshop
Well, here we go!
For a long time now I have wanted to have a web site where I could post my drawings and paintings so that I could share them with my friends and my students. I just felt that I didn't really have anything worth posting. I hope I can use this blog to create a journal of images that I might be able to post on the web site.
A large reason I have been hesitant to display my art is that I have have been overwelmed by the huge number of talented artists that have inspired me. I have yet to totally find my own direction. I feel I am constantly pulled in different directions because I find so much joy in looking at and studying good drawings and paintings. Every one adds to and at the same time distracts me from my personal goals as an artist.
I have been fortunate to have been taught by some of the most patient and brilliant painters alive. My teachers and mentors have been Rick Graham, Paul Davis, Doug Braithwaite, David Dornan, Connie Borup, John Erickson, Rob McKay, and my little brother Robert Coombs.
The artists that inspire and confuse me(in a good way) also include Sargent, Zorn, Repin, Nelson Shanks, Alex Kanevsky, Jenny Saville, John Howard Sanden, Richard Schmid, Burt Silverman, Rembrandt, Odd Nerdrum, Tom Lovell, Harry Anderson, and Dan Gerhartz.
Also check out my links for a buffet of incredible local artist that inspire me.
I hope that some of those influences have led me to have something to post that will inspire others the way they have inspired me.
